I don’t know why, but I can’t shake the idea of the Normandy having a basketball hoop and on days off, the crew would set them up in the cargo bay and play a few rounds.
And some of the aliens don’t know what to do.
Tali and Liara are adorably clumsy at it, but both start to get the hang of it with the help of Biotics and Chitchika.
Thane can’t play for too long because of his KS, but he is easily the best long distance shooter.
Garrus is just baffled by the game but it turns out he’s a natural. Easily dunking and out shooting the other players.
Wrex knows how to play since Ancient Krogans played a similar game with the severed heads of their enemies. He also makes the remark that they would eat the losing team. No one knows if he’s joking or not.
Grunt tries to eat the ball and after one incident with the hoop, he doesn’t like playing any more.
Samara doesn’t play and is more content with just watching the game, sometimes using her biotics to deflect a stray ball back to the court.
Mordin watches the games intently, remarking if a playing is doing too poorly. Sometimes offering advice for improvement or just simply heckling.
Javik makes the usual comment of “In my Cycle” the Proteans taught the Krogans this “game” as a way of population control.
EDI and Legion don’t play in the physical sense, instead they stand on the court and face eachother, with the ball set between them. Both calculating thousands of scenarios of how the other will move and how they should react. After an hour or so, their match is called a “draw” and they’re used as the team’s strategist “Team Mako” gets Legion while “Team Hammerhead” gets EDI.
Ashley plays rather well, having played with her sisters growing up.
James is a natural but has issues focusing on the game when Ashely and Jack are on the court.
Jack plays for keeps, often getting more physical than necessary, though she controls herself enough to not draw blood… sometimes.
Miranda never played before but read up on Earth Sports so of course she knows everything about it. She doesn’t play with the crew but after some heckling from Jack involving the word “Cheerleader”, she cracks and decides to play. Basketball is one of the few thing she’s terrible at, but she enjoys the game sans Jack’s heckling.
Kaiden plays but not for too long as it often gives causes his migraines to flare. He’s content with watching and cheering.
Kasumi watches the game from someplace high in the Cargo Hold, sometimes using her cloaking tech to mess with the game.
Jacob likes to talk a big game but he’s not too fast on his feet, often fumbling.
Joker watches from the sidelines, joining with Jack’s heckling, often making comments how EDI should dress the part as a Team Hammerhead cheerleader and wave some pom poms.
Traynor watches from the sidelines, cheering for the girls playing no matter what team they’re on. Her face flushes red at the idea of EDI dressed as a cheerleader.
Kelly actually dresses as a cheerleader, cheering for both teams, though she’s asked to change after she causes Vega to stumble and nearly take out his entire team.
Zaeed tells how he used to be a guddamn rising star in his youth, only to find out his coach planned to sell his best players to various gangs in the traverse causing Zaeed to fight and kill the coach and his Krogan bodyguard. Like Jack he is more physical, when they play against eachother, it can get almost violent enough for someone needing to break them up.
Steve prefers to watch than play, staying at his workstation, though he does pay close attention to Jacob, James, and Kaiden as they play without their shirts.
Shepard (Both Genders) have different play styles depending on their Pre-Service Histories and Reputations.
Earthborn Shepard plays the roughest and is the most knowledgeable about the game. Spacer Shepard never got to play it too often but is slowly learning through watching their crew play. Colonist Shepard is in the middle, knowing about the game and having played it before, though hasn’t played it in years so may be rusty.
War Hero Shepard makes the best use of their team, strategizing to be an unstoppable force. Sole Survivor tries to win the game by their self, often falling short of winning and needing to learn how to use their team. Renegade Shepard plays rough, sometimes using his team as bait or using feints to try and steal the ball, they often heckle to try and distract the opponent or their own team mates to ensure that Shepard always scores.
Anderson often plays a quiet one-on-one game with Shepard as a bonding ritual to just appreciate how far they’ve come since they first met, either early in the morning or late in the evening so they can be alone.
